Have you ever heard of the word duyog? Duyog is a Filipino word that is not commonly used, if you don’t search and dig up if what is the meaning of the word duyog then you probably can’t understand it, its not just one, but there are so many Filipino words that is uncommonly used in everyday life. Check below! there are some 10 uncommonly used Filipino words with their meaning ang example when used in the sentence.

TEN (10) UNCOMMONLY USED FILIPINO WORDS

1. Filipino word: Duyog
English translation: Eclipse

Definition: An occasion when the sun looks like it is completely or partially covered with a dark circle because the moon is between the sun and the Earth.

Sentence Example: Nakaka akit  pagmasdan ang  isang duyog.

2. Filipino word: Sulatroniko

English translation: E-mail

Definition: A system for sending messages from one computer to another computer. : messages that are sent electronically from one computer to another.

Sentence Example: Ako ay nag pa-abot sa sulatroniko ng aking mensahe sa mga pamilya sa ibang lugar.

3. Filipino Word: Kansunsilyo

English translation: Boxer Shorts

Definition: men’s underwear shorts characterized by loose fit.

Sentence Example: Ginamit ko ang bagong biniling Kansunsilyo na binili ko kanina.

4. Filipino Word: Anluwage

English translation: Carpenter

Definition: a worker who builds or repairs wooden structures or their structural parts

Sentence Example: Si Juan ay isang magaling na Anluwage sa paggawa ng mga kagamitang kahoy.

5. Filipino Word: Labaha

English translation: Razor

Definition: a keen-edged cutting instrument for shaving or cutting hair.

Sentence Example: Ginamit ko ang Labaha kanina upang ipang-ahit sa Aking balbas.

6. Filipino Word: Batlag

English translation: Car

Definition: a vehicle moving on wheels.

Sentence Example: Nang dahil sa pagpupursege  ni Alan naka bili siya ng magarang Batlag

7. Filipino Word: Dupil

English translation: Amulet

Definition: It is an amulet, or anything that is believed to have the power to save the person who owns it from any harm. The more popular Tagalog words currently being used are anting-anting and agimat.

Sentence Example: Ginamit ni Juan ang dupil upang maligtas ang kaniyang Sarili sa kapahamakan.

8. Filipino Word: Pulot-Gata 

English translation: Honeymoon

Definition: A trip or vacation taken by a newly married couple, A period of harmony immediately following marriage.

Sentence Example: Pagtapos nilang ikasal ay lumipad sila papuntang Paris para sa kanilang pulot-gata.

9. Filipino Word: Sambat

English translation: Fork

Definition: A common tool used in eating that usually has three or four stiff metal points attached to a handle.

Sentence Example: Karamihan sa mga tao ay gumagamit ng Sambat pag kumakain.

10. Filipino Word: Durungawan

English translation: Window

Definition: an opening especially in the wall of a building for admission of light and air that is usually closed by casements or sashes containing transparent material (such as glass) and capable of being opened and shut.

Sentence Example: Makikita mo sa aming Durungawan ang isang napaka gandang tanawin.

We all know, Senior High School in our country which is Philippines offers four major tracks which are Academic Track, Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL), Sports Track, and Arts & Design Track. The Academic track then offers four strands which are Accountancy Business and Management (ABM), General Academic Strand (GAS), Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). And HUMSS. Well, HUMSS stands for Humanities and Social Sciences.

And I did choose HUMSS without thinking: “How hard could it be?”

As far as i know HUMSS is a strand focused on literature, politics, religion and social sciences. It helps improve student’s reading, writing, speaking and social skills, and the skills this strand is trying to develop are critically needed for students who want to take up journalism, education, and other social science-related courses in college.

And this strand is just as challenging as the others but if your passion is related in the subjects offered in HUMSS, I am sure that you will enjoy and learn a lot in this strand.

I did  choose  this strand because i want to be a teacher,

So if you want to ba a teacher, seafarer and any other courses that is social science related you must choose this strand in order to improve your reading, writing and speaking social skills and  develope your self-confident while talking in front of the crowd or  communicating to your audiences.

But remember Choose the track that suits you well and is related if what course you want to be in when you go to college.
